Burlington, NC

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The City of Burlington had a mixture of manual-read and remote walk-by or drive-by meters that had exceeded their life expectancy. To prepare Burlington to be a more efficient and greener community, Utility Metering Solutions (UMS) acted as the City's end-to-end systems integrator to provide all project oversight for its advanced metering program.

The consultation project included the implementation of:

  • Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) meters and transmitters for remote reading
  • An AMI network to collect and report meter readings remotely
  • A meter data management (MDM) system to aggregate and manage data from the meters and provide control over the system from a central location

Since UMS does not represent any meter, hardware or software solutions, the company identified the most appropriate vendors to solve Burlington's needs. UMS also provided the City with a public outreach communications strategy and collateral to educate and excite Burlington residents about the project.
